AppSumo lifetime deal overview
What each Contral AppSumo tier includes: exact limits, features in every tier, and what isn't included.
Contral is available as a lifetime deal on AppSumo. You pay once on AppSumo, activate the license on your Contral account, and keep that plan's limits without a monthly subscription. This page lists exactly what each AppSumo tier includes.

How the Contral AppSumo lifetime deal works#
The Contral lifetime deal is sold and billed by AppSumo, not by Contral. When you buy it, AppSumo issues you a license. You then click Activate on your AppSumo purchase, sign in to Contral (or create an account), and the license is linked to that Contral account.
From then on, your Contral account runs on the lifetime tier you bought:
- There is no Contral subscription, no card on file with Contral and no renewal date.
- The same account works in the Contral extension (VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Antigravity, Kilo Code, VSCodium) and in the Contral desktop IDE.
- Your dashboard at contral.ai/overview shows an amber AppSumo Tier 1, AppSumo Tier 2 or AppSumo Tier 3 badge.
- Usage limits are enforced on Contral's servers per account, so they apply the same way on every editor and machine you sign in on.

AppSumo tiers and limits#
Each AppSumo tier maps to a Contral plan level. Tier 1 and Tier 2 are Pro-level plans with higher daily limits than the monthly Pro plan; Tier 3 is a Pro+-level plan.

Daily limits reset at 00:00 UTC. Monthly limits reset on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC. Sessions are a running total for the account and do not reset. For what each of these terms means, see Usage limits & quotas explained.
What every AppSumo tier includes#
All three AppSumo tiers include:
- All Learn mode topics, with no free-tier topic locks (Learn mode currently teaches Java)
- Unlimited code explanations
- Plan and Deep agent modes (in addition to Fast)
- Recursive agent mode with no daily cap
- Unlimited codebase chat
- Unlimited bring-your-own-key (BYOK) messages
- Auto-fix
What the AppSumo deal does not include#
- Tier 1 and Tier 2 do not include completion certificates, premium model access or priority inference speed. These are included in Tier 3 only.
- Team features. The lifetime deal is a single-user license for one Contral account. Team features such as an admin dashboard, team progress tracking and centralized billing belong to the separate Teams plan. See Plans & pricing.
- Model provider costs for BYOK. When you use your own API key, your provider (for example OpenAI or Anthropic) bills you directly for those tokens. Contral doesn't count BYOK messages against your AppSumo limits.
Rules for AppSumo licenses on Contral#
- One license per Contral account, and one Contral account per license. A license can't be split across accounts, and an account can't hold two licenses at once.
- Tier changes happen on AppSumo. To move to a higher (or lower) tier, use AppSumo's account page. Contral cannot change your tier for you. See Upgrade or change your tier.
- Refunds happen on AppSumo. AppSumo handles refunds within its 60-day window. A refunded license is deactivated on Contral. See Refunds & deactivation.
- You can't buy a Contral subscription on top of a lifetime license. If you try to check out a monthly plan while a lifetime license is active, Contral shows: "Your account has an AppSumo lifetime license. Upgrade your tier from your AppSumo account instead."
